What is bad
One of the worst experiences with the customs when trying to get VAT refund stamp. There were one woman and a man working there on Oct. 18 and we had to deal with the woman. The woman did not try to speak English for a while although we obviously did not understand German. She first said that our passports did not have EU entry stamp. Our EU entry was Charles De Gaulle airport, and they did not stamp our passport. It was not our fault whatsoever (how could we control what French immigration does?), but she gave us enough hard time at that point already. Then, she made us show clothing item in our big suitcase – even made us, tiny middle-age females, to lift the big suitcase to the counter. We had never asked to show any clothing items for tax refund in this manner in any other European airport before, but we agreed to do so right away. Then next, she asked us to show her all the items we bought at a cosmetic store. We were four of us, and bought many low-priced items, and although we paid together, each of us packed some items in the suitcase. I had some of the items in my suitcase which was on the counter already, so I showed the ones I had. The woman complained and wanted to see rest of the items at first. We told her that the items were divided into four suitcases because of the weight. She finally agreed to stamp the document, but she told us sarcastically to put all the items in one suitcase from now on. How unreasonable. Many of those cosmetic items were well under 30 Euro or even much less, and among the other airports we had visited, we had never been asked to show those low-priced items. She was obviously enjoying giving us a hard time. Although the people who stamped our receipt for carry-on items inside the passport control area were nice enough, that woman at public area made our Munich Airport experience absolute worst ever.
